Active Industrial Manufacturing Site Fuel Oil Remediation, LNAPL, Ozone Sparging
FTCH was retained to abate a diesel fuel release where a one-well pump-and-treat system has previously operated for 11 years. Additional site investigation showed the extent of LNAPL was significantly greater than previously determined and the product plume extended beneath a warehouse. An ozone sparging system was designed, pilot tested, and converted to full-scale operation. The system consists of 79 sparge wells, grouped into eight zones that were used to inject a mixture of air and ozone gas into the subsurface. Soil sampling has been conducted at the close of operations to assess the remaining hydrocarbon mass. Analysis of diesel range organics in soil indicate 76-percent of the original hydrocarbon mass has been destroyed, and LNAPL has been removed. Site closure has been achieved.
