Fishbeck was retained to design and implement the remediation of contaminated soil and groundwater containing perchloroethylene (PCE) as part of a state-funded community redevelopment program at the Boston Beer Brownfield Site in Cincinnati, Ohio. The remediation work was designed to support future development by the adjacent brewery and improve the suitability of neighboring properties for occupancy. The remediation included excavation of nearly 7,500 tons of heavily impacted shallow soil followed by installation and operation of a soil vapor extraction system to remediate soil beneath and beyond the excavation area. In situ chemical oxidation (ISCO) using potassium permanganate (KMNO4) was selected for groundwater remediation. Since the majority of the site had limited accessibility, the KMNO4 solution was injected directly into the target treatment area using a Geoprobe fitted with injection tooling.
