Former Wood-Preserving Industry Site Wetland and Streambank Remediation
This RCRA site located in Evergreen, Alabama, consists of a former wood-preserving operation, which has an onsite and offsite remediation component. Metals (arsenic, hexavalent chromium, copper) and phenolic compounds (tetrachlorophenol and pentachlorophenol) have migrated offsite into a half-mile-long stretch of combined streambed and wetlands. FTCH managed and performed several study phases to assess the quality and exposure risk (ecological and human health) for the offsite surface water quality, streambed sediment, groundwater, and wetland environments. Studies included a net environmental benefit analysis (NEBA), which provides the basis for a no-action remedy.
