WMU Western Heights Residence Halls Site Work

Western Michigan University new residence halls encompass 10 acres in the center of campus. Design included the construction of two student residence hall buildings; a chiller building; underground steam tunnels; parking lots; roads; and water, sewer, and communications utilities. FTCH provided civil and structural engineering services for the project and responsibilities included building and tunnel structural design, site layout; water, sewer, and storm sewer utility design; stormwater drainage design; grading; and road design.

FTCH worked closely with separate A/E and MEP firms, the construction manager, and the University to complete the project’s design. FTCH prepared construction drawings, permit applications, and contract specifications, as well as topographic survey, construction staking, and construction administration for underground utility installation.
