Washington and Sprague Street Sanitary Sewer

The City of Coldwater’s sanitary sewer system experienced a long-term issue with infiltration and inflow. FTCH provided Coldwater BPU full services for this project from study through design and construction oversight. Throughout the study phase, targeted flow and groundwater monitoring were used to locate areas with significant infiltration and inflow issues. A sanitary sewer evaluation study was completed to target the specific sources found in the main line, laterals, and manholes on Washington and Sprague Streets. A cost-effective alternative was a combination of open cut construction, CIPP lining, and manhole rehabilitation.

After project completion, overall system flow was reduced by 25 percent. The City received an S2 grant that paid for 90 percent of the study and received ARRA funding with 40-percent principle forgiveness.
