Former Metal Parts Manufacturing Site Groundwater Investigation CVOCs
FTCH was retained to develop a closure attainment plan for a former American Machining Company manufacturing site in Mohnton, Pennsylvania, that was impacted by tetrachloroethene (PCE) and its breakdown compounds. The PCE contamination extends downward into steeply dipping layers of fractured sandstone. The site is regulated under the Pennsylvania Act 2 voluntary program. A reevaluation of the site data supported the conclusion that the groundwater flow direction had been previously misinterpreted and attainment was not being obtained. A new site conceptual model was developed by FTCH which demonstrated containment migration pathways to be significantly different from previous interpretations. A revised work plan to support attainment and assess other potential exposure pathways was presented to the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection and approved.
