City of Grand Rapids | Monroe Center No. 2 Parking Facility

City of Grand Rapids | Monroe Center No. 2 Parking Facility

An inclusive design process contributes to the revitalization of Grand Rapids’ downtown core. Monroe Center No. 2 is the fourth parking facility project to be designed by Fishbeck for the City of Grand Rapids. Through an intensive design charette, the planning team explored a variety of issues and alternative solutions for this important project.

Retail space at street level enlivens the urban pedestrian experience. Elevated walkway connections to existing and future neighboring buildings were key to pedestrian access, comfort, and safety. Architectural aesthetics was a prime consideration for this ramp. The landmark corner tower and ingenious facade treatment, which recall other uses and times, help to further integrate the building into its architectural surroundings.

Fishbeck was the prime consultant performing architectural, mechanical/plumbing, electrical, and civil/landscape services. Functional planning was completed by Allan Davis Associates and Carl Walker/WGI provided structural engineering.
