GVSU P. Douglas Kindschi Hall of Science
Grand Valley State University has been gearing up to support the growing student population preparing for health profession careers. The University needed to offer the necessary laboratory research space to provide for student and faculty advancement.
FTCH designed a new 151,522 -sf science laboratory building, located on GVSU's Allendale campus that will provide increased and improved facilities for instructional and research activities. The building was designed to meet functional space requirements and foster relationships that support the mission of the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences. Design of the building utilizes a planning module that provides initial planning flexibility for laboratory, classroom, and office space, as well as the ability to adapt building space to academic need over the life of the building.
Understanding lab buildings are typically large energy consumers, FTCH tailored the mechanical design to utilize energy efficient systems and equipment. Building entrances and consideration of green spaces and views to the surrounding campus help integrate the facility into the campus fabric including the existing pedestrian circulation network.
