Grand Rapids Blue Bridge Restoration
The existing pedestrian bridge spanning the Grand River in downtown Grand Rapids needed rehabilitation to continue serving as a popular tourist destination during Art Prize and a scenic location for wedding ceremonies and photographs.
In addition to construction inspection and administration on this project, FTCH designed the bridge rehabilitation improvements including substructure painting; deck, railing, and joint repairs; approach replacement; traffic maintenance plans; and bridge lighting upgrades. As part of the lighting upgrades, FTCH completed a comprehensive evaluation of the existing bridge lighting and recommended programmable lighting fixtures, which feature LED lights and the ability to change light colors remotely.
Coordination with MDEQ, SHPO, DDA, and the City of Grand Rapids Historic Commission was a key element of this project.
